Proper care of eczema and psoriasis is critical... to soothe, support and help promote skin health.

Eczema and psoriasis are chronic skin conditions that involve scaly and itchy red rash-like areas. There are a variety of medical topical treatments available from your doctor. In addition, good chemical-free daily skincare is a high priority so that you help calm and not further irritate skin.

Reduce the Look of Redness and Calm the Skin

“I tried every kind of skincare to use with my psoriasis, and your products have really helped my skin to look so good for two years now."   Barbara L. R.N.

L'ATHENE products are 99+% chemical-free and are very helpful for patients with eczema-like skin. These products are pure nutrients and help to minimize redness and irritation and help to maximally nourish skin that needs extra support. L'ATHENE is formulated with the highest-quality nutrients that are nourishing, mild and non-irritating. To keep skin in the best balanced state, use SR-3 Skin Rejuvenation Starter Kit for the face, NUTRIAGE Total Eye Repair Creme twice daily to eye area to help reduce puffiness and irritation, and NEROLI Body Silkening Nutrient Crème for the body twice daily.

Help Control the Itching

Almost all eczema is itchy, sometimes starting before the rash. The skin may appear very dry, thickened or scaly. To avoid further irritation, making wise choices in cleansing is critical. For facial cleansing, almost all cleansers are made with harsh detergents - even medical brands - which can strip the skin of its natural oils making it more prone to dryness, flaking and itching. Soaps are made with detergents too. For gentle, non-irritating facial cleansing, use PRIMESSE Essential Facial Cleanser, a mild, non-detergent facial cleanser that will not strip the skin and keeps skin balanced and healthier. Avoid ingredients like Sodium Lauryl Sulfates or other Sulfates in facial cleansers and shampoos.

Hydrate the Skin

Eczema can be exacerbated by dryness of skin. Dryness continues to a weakened top layer (epidermal) of skin which allows chemicals to more easily penetrate the skin barrier causing more irritation and susceptibility to infections.Moisturizing is one of the most important self-care treatments for eczema sufferers. To maximally hydrate and nourish the skin, apply twice daily RESTORE Balancing Skin Moisturizer or ULTRA Intensive Moisture Therapy to the affected facial areas and NEROLI Body Silkening Nutrient Crème to the affected body areas.

Calm Inflamed Areas

For areas that are very inflamed, massage in a drop or two of EXTRACT Dry Skin Hydrating Plant Oil. Once oil is absorbed, apply NEROLI Creme to the body or L'ATHENE moisturizers to the face.

Help Soothe Cracked Hands

Hands are frequently a troubling area with eczema due to frequent contact with water and irritants. With dry, flaky hands, apply two drops of EXTRACT Dry Skin Hydrating Plant Oil and massage into the skin. Follow with NEROLI Body Silkening Nutrient Crème, then layer with A and D Ointment® and cover with white, cotton athletic socks. Do this before bedtime and sleep in the socks. In AM, remove socks and reapply NEROLI Creme.

Additional Information

Eczema can also be accompanied with redness, skin swelling, itching, dryness, crusting, flaking, blistering, cracking, oozing or bleeding. Psoriasis can have red skin with silver-white, flaky patches known are scales. These uncomfortable, chronic conditions should be diagnosed by a doctor. There is no known cure for either conditions, but good skin care choices can help you control the flare-up symptoms.

Avoid Skincare with Standard Cosmetic Chemicals which can Further Irritate Skin

Almost all skincare, including medical skincare brands, contain alcohols, petroleum-derivatives, detergents, and many other skin irritating ingredients, that can cause further redness, inflammation or discomfort. This also includes many products that claim they are good for sensitive skin. Choosing skincare products that are free of chemicals and other irritants is important. Become a label reader. Read more about the ingredients in L'ATHENE products.

TIP: Avoid powders and perfumes as they may cause more dryness or irritation.

Avoid Detergent Shampoos

Use a natural, non-detergent shampoo on your hair to avoid exposure on your face to potentially irritating ingredients. Cleanse in the shower using only detergent-free shampoos on your body. To keep itching down, hot soaking baths should be avoided. Instead apply cool compresses. After showering or cleansing the face, applying moisturizers for hydration is important.

Good Diet Can Help

While eating a healthy diet is important for everyone, people with eczema may find relief from itching and dryness by more closely following their nutrition. Processed foods lack the antioxidant and additional nutrient content found in fresh, wholesome foods. So, lessening the processed foods may help. However, diets rich in omega-3 fatty acids can particularly help with dry skin conditions. Foods such as flaxseeds and flaxseed oil, salmon, mackerel and some nuts can help provide omega-3 fatty acids. These special fatty acids play a key role in helping the body control inflammation which can be helpful with conditions such as eczema.

Lessen Stress & Enjoy Life More

Controlling stress may be helpful, as stress exacerbates eczema.
